Sharnbrook Academy Federation given the go ahead to join Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust

The Regional Schools Commissioners’ Headteacher Board has approved the proposal for Sharnbrook Academy Federation (SAF) multi-academy trust to join CMAT for September 2021.

Members of our Senior Leadership Team, including CEO Mark Woods, have provided interim support to SAF since October 2020. The SAF Trustee board made the decision to join CMAT following changes in the leadership at the Trust and the desire to take a fresh strategic direction with a larger regional trust.

SAF’s five academies, two secondary schools – Sharnbrook Academy and Lincroft Academy – and three primary schools – Harrold Primary Academy, Great Ouse Primary Academy and Oakley Primary Academy will be fully part of CMAT for the start of academic year this September. SAF’s initial teacher training (SAF ITT) provision will also join CMAT.

Mark Woods, CEO of CMAT, said: “It has been a real privilege to get to know Sharnbrook Academy Federation schools, staff and governors over recent months in my role as interim CEO. The resilience, dedication and expertise demonstrated by the leaders in schools over what has been a very challenging period with the pandemic has been tremendous.

“We are highly confident that this partnership will be of great benefit to both organisations as we are closely aligned in our vision for the education of our pupils and the role we play in our communities.

“We will continue to work closely with the SAF Trustees, Senior Leadership Team and local communities to ensure the next stages in the process for the Trust to join CMAT run smoothly over the summer.”

Sharnbrook Academy Federation (SAF) exists to provide an outstanding education for all our students, putting their progress at the heart of everything we do.

Our Trust has a passion for seeing all children succeed and we are guided in all our decision making by one question, “Is this in the best interests of children?” - our Trust has one group of children educated across a number of sites and we seek to ensure parity & consistency of our offer to all of them. We are determined to be a high performing and successful Multi-Academy Trust that delivers the very best educational experience for pupils from early years to post 16 and so improve the life chances of all of its pupils.

We believe that Trusts that work together collaboratively are in the best position to improve education for all the children in their care and to provide an outstanding educational experience for each individual pupil and we strive to build effective network partnerships to inform and strengthen our practices with other high performing Trusts, academies and practitioners locally & nationally.

This does not just relate to academic attainment. It also underpins our strong duty of care to ensure that children’s wellbeing and self-esteem as learners and citizens, are nurtured and supported by strong pastoral and ancillary systems.

We expect that colleagues will strive for excellence in every aspect of their work, in return colleagues can expect high quality training and development to support and develop their careers.

Sharnbrook Academy Federation has five member academies and SAF Initial Teacher Training. This will continue to evolve as further schools join our Multi Academy Trust.

The SAF Board runs the Multi Academy Trust and has delegated some matters to committees and some matters to individuals but accountability is retained at the SAF Board.

Each academy has a Local Governing Body (LGB) to ensure clear challenge and support for each individual academy.  Again, although some tasks are delegated to the LGBs accountability always sits with the SAF Board.

SAF has a subsidiary company SAF MAT Trading Ltd.

We are very proud of the work we do in our Trust in the very best interests of the students in our care and thank you for your interest in our academies.
